The Problem
Why Most Event Content Never Sees the Light of Day
Let’s be honest: most event content goes nowhere. I’d even say about 90% of it never makes it out into the world – of if it does, it just a video of the whole general session, or something similar. And that’s a shame — because inside those recordings are some of the most valuable stories, insights, and ideas a company could ever share.
So, what happens to all that content?
Well, here’s the typical cycle: your team works hard, the event goes off beautifully, and the cameras capture everything from multiple angles. Then the footage gets downloaded onto a hard drive. Maybe it ends up in a Dropbox folder. And then it just… sits there.
Sound familiar?
Why It Happens
It’s not because the content isn’t valuable. Far from it. The real issue is bandwidth. By the time an event wraps, the entire team is exhausted. They’ve put weeks (or months) into planning every detail. Once it’s over, they’re ready to move forward, not look back.
On top of that, dealing with raw event files is no small feat. These are massive, complex recordings. Sorting through hours of footage, maintaining quality, and turning it into something polished? That’s a heavy lift most teams simply aren’t built for.
So instead, everyone looks ahead to the next big thing. The next event. The next department milestone. The next marketing push. And what’s left behind is a treasure chest of content that never gets unlocked.
Why That’s a Missed Opportunity
Think about it this way: marketing teams spend months developing content strategies. They brainstorm, storyboard, write scripts, and build out campaigns. And yet, sitting on that hard drive is already-polished messaging — scripts, talking points, carefully crafted presentations. It’s all there, baked into the event.
But because it’s in the form of a giant recording, it gets overlooked. No one’s going to sit through an hour and a half of raw video. That’s just not how people consume content anymore. But if you break it down into bite-sized pieces — a clip here, a blog there, a quick graphic or podcast — suddenly the audience is re-engaging with the same ideas they heard in the room.
That’s not just smart. That’s efficient.
What It Means for You
If you’re an event planner, an account manager, or an internal client, you’ve probably felt this pain point firsthand. You know the value of your event. You saw the reactions in the room. You heard the applause. But after the fact, you just don’t have the time or the team capacity to repackage it into something that lives on.
And here’s the kicker: while your team moves on, your audience moves on too. Without ongoing content to keep them connected, the buzz dies quickly. What could have been months of engagement becomes a one-and-done moment.
The Core Problem
So, the problem is simple: companies are investing huge amounts of money into events, but not maximizing the return. The footage exists. The ideas are already captured. But the system to make use of it isn’t there.
And until that changes, event content will keep ending up on the shelf instead of in the spotlight where it belongs.
